Greetings PLP Students,

We just received word from our friends over at Hampton Parks and Recreation (you know - from Leadership Adventure) that they are looking for one of our outstanding students to fill an intern/part time position. Please read the job description below and be sure to follow the directions on how to apply. Applications are due August, 8th so be sure to act fast.
Those juniors or seniors looking to fulfill the Leadership Minor internship requirement should keep in mind that you need to register for LDSP491 within a year after completing an internship. If you have questions about the internship requirement please call the PLP Office at 757-594-7207.

Position with the City of Hampton

Intern/Part Time Position: Research Assistant

  • A majority of the work would be focused in the following areas:
  • Researching Parks & Recreation projects and historical information.
  • Data collection & analysis
  • Internet research
  • Technical writing
  • Well-developed computer skills
  • Highly knowledgeable of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft programs.
  • Administrative functions
  • The ability to work with upper level management to develop the ideas and programs for a major City department.
In addition, some work will require the following skills:

  • Assistance in historical research
  • Assistance in special event coordination
  • Administrative tasks related to the coordination of events.
  • Preferred, but not required, experience in Photoshop.
  • Preferred, but not required, experience writing press releases.
Above all:

  • Must be flexible, have the ability to multi-task, and be self motivated.
  • Must have a great sense of humor and enjoy working in a relaxed environment.
  • Administrative tasks related to the coordination of events.
This is a paid, flexible, and challenging internship with the City of Hampton. The position is located in the Administration of Parks & Recreation, 22 Lincoln Street, 5th Floor, Hampton, VA 23669 and would offer the applicant significant resume experience. The applicant would report to the Superintendent of Recreation and the Special Events Coordinator for Hampton’s 400th Anniversary.
